WHAT THE MASTERS HAVE Confess to your dreams You've counted up the losses They know you've failed them But dreams can be replaced. Apologize to the gurus And bear them down from their crosses Where you once blackmailed them And send them on their way. The seekers want, what the masters have So it's safe and sound And it's free at last But it's lost NOT found And the cup is passed When the slaves want just What the masters have.

Oh, the wrenching loveliness Of my crooked flight The moist morning path From the door to the car That takes me away and back again The truth intact again: That I am a shadow Oh, the jarring tenderness Shown me from all points I am grateful for it all For every cut, every fall I am a shadow I am a shadow I am a shadow you will dance with I am the theory And the practice Oh the wrenching loveliness Of my crooked flight The moist morning path From the dark to the light I am grateful for it all For every cut, for every fall. I am a shadow I am a shadow I am the shadow you will dance with I am the theory And the practice Of love.

Why in the dark dear heart Have you come see me Why in the world won't you save me Why in the darkness do I see so clearly You have not gone away I dream of mine Not lost in sleep I'll call you down Why in the dark dear heart Have you come see me Why in the world won't you save me Why in the darkness do I see so clearly You have not gone away And it won't grow cold Like so many memories do Though you believe in me You've bled me too Somewhere not someone not something to have to worry and cry them to stay Then, then in the darkness We'll see so clearly We are not going away I dream of mine Not lost in sleep I'll call you down I'll call you down

about

CROSSING OVER
The customs man asked: "Name of band?"
Doesn't have a name.
"What kind of music do you do?"
Not sure we're doing any kind of music. We're making music that music doesn't make. It's barely there, serving something. And you can dance to it.
Gospel, maybe.
"So what's the grief and mystery thing?"
That's what happens when the people come.
"People come to something you call Grief and Mystery?"
I know. I don't get it either.
"Go across."

Roads not taken are taunts.
Rough roads have seen too much work. Or not enough.
Old roads are ripples in the grass.
Sea roads close behind the colossus, their wake forgiven.
Night roads can show you the way.
Crossroads are crises you can afford.
Dark roads: That's where you get a glimpse of your work. Then you decide.

This record belongs to whoever would steal from the young the seized up indifference that comes from not seeing the real thing at least once.
