My inner masochist was jumping for joy
At all the poison he had pumping in his boy
He nearly wore me down, he nearly stole my crown.
Ah, but that was yesterday, sometime in the night the Surgeon came
I woke up with hollow bones
And the truth I’ve always known, I was born above the law.
Into the beautiful parade, it’s a beautiful parade
Just relax and don’t forget to smile
From the cradle to the grave, it’s a beautiful parade
Be happy if you want to be.
In the beginning was The Word and The Word was good.
But then The Word was misunderstood
That’s always how it goes, eyes open then closed.
Father mother daughter son; every lamb, every lion
All just angels without wings, we were meant for better things
We were meant for a better life.
Here in the beautiful parade…
The Holy Ghost is on the move
You’ve just got to learn to spot the clues
In our science when it proves what the heart already knows.
With the exception of "The Man I Am" — which began life in the basement and was built upon in the studio— the songs on The Beggar Heart were recorded with an ensemble of bass, guitar, drums and at times piano, during a 4 day recording in April, 2006. Additional guitar, percussion, strings, vocals etc. were added over the next number of months.
The second full studio recording with rhythm section George Koller on bass and Gary Craig on drums, a larger affair altogether than its' predecessor. There are some crowd favourites here, most notably a solid recording of "Beautiful Parade". Other stand-outs include "The Devil Deals in Lies", "Never A Stranger Kiss" with Serena Ryder, and one of my personal all-time favourites, "Bittersweet".
