If I’m allowed to have favorites…and if such a thing even makes sense… Regrets is a favorite. On the 2019 tour, we closed the night with it. But I am a fan of how it first appeared, brought to the band on the 2018 tour an hour or so before the concert started on the West Coast, with Stephen reading out of his book just off stage where there were a couple of couches set up in a makeshift greenroom, and the crowd gathering in the hall, and all of us listening. That moment is captured on Ian Mackenzie‘s film Lost Nation Road: a real time unfolding of us hearing something for the first time and trying to figure out what might become of it on stage a few minutes from then. I decided to underpin the reading with the chord progression from a song of mine called Illuminate Me, from 2007's Beggar Heart.
